CIS History
The Center for Internet Studies was founded in 1999 and housed in the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs. The Center’s main focus examined the role of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) in international development specifically, and advancing inquiry into other emerging questions about the information society more generally.
In the spring of 2007, efforts were initiated to re-launch the Center in the Information school in order to build on, and expand, the center’s previous work. The Center was renamed as the Center for Information & Society to encompass this broader vision. Efforts are now underway to develop the infrastructure of the Center and assess the current scope of research within the UW community.
