Maria has been invited to present in a panel on "e-learning, open distance education and ICT" at the UNESCO Regional Conferences in Support of Global Literacy held at Baku, Azerbaijan on May 14-16.

Joyojeet Pal from UC Berkeley discusses “Computers and the Promise of Development”

In this talk, Pal will review the recent history of technology and development, or what we have come to know as ICTD and consider some areas of promise and caution.

Research workshop held in Seattle (April 30-May 2) for the Public Access to ICT Impact Project.

The CIS team, faculty advisors, research experts from the Research Working Group as well as researchers from 3 countries selected for the pilot studies - Bangladesh, Chile and Lithuania - participated in a three day workshop to design the pilot study for this project.

ICTD Program Holds Global Public Access Workshop in Costa Rica

This workshop featured research partners in our landscape study of public access in 24 countries to plan the research design for Phase II of fieldwork. April 14-16.

Maria Garrido and Mark West present at the European Telecenter Network Meeting

Maria and Mark presented "Bridging the e-skills gap in Central and Eastern Europe" at the Telecentre Leaders Forum - Europe on April 8-9 in Riga, Latvia.

Dr. Ricardo Gomez presented on the role of ICT's in international development programs.

Benedito Medeiros Neto visited the University of Washington and presented his experiences with the Brazilian Digital Inclusion Program to the University community.

Benedito Medeiros Neto is a PhD student of the Department of Information Science and Documentation of the University of Brasília, with a large experience in digital divide as part of his job at the Brazilian Ministry of Communication. His main areas of research are digital inclusion, social network, virtual communities, and ICT for development.
