Computer technology and art: New dimensions in experimental art
Stephanie Andrews
Associate Professor, UW Center for Digital Arts and Experimental Media
Using the trajectory of her own artistic research as a roadmap, Andrews will introduce the practice of experimental digital art. In particular, she will focus on how the complex allure of three dimensional perception is explored using new techniques. The presentation will reference both historical and contemporary technologies, such as trompe l'oeil painting, lenticular printing, 3D computer graphics, holography, and stereo cinematography. As the use of digital effects, image compositing, and physical display technology becomes more and more complex, our potential sophistication as viewers also grows. With an eye for the confluence of these forces, Andrews will outline new directions in compositional research and artistic production that revolve around the creative manipulation and interpretation of dimensional experiences using both screen-based and sculptural forms.
