Internet Political Economy Forum

The Internet Political Economy Forum (IPEF), established in September 1999 at a conference hosted by the University of Washington, is an international consortium of universities devoted to advancing interdisciplinary teaching and research on the networked society.

At the first annual IPEF conference in 1999, Internet luminaries such as Vinton Cerf, John Perry Barlow, Jun Murai, Craig Mundie, and Manuel Castells challenged the academic community to lead the creation of a new interdisciplinary field to study the Internet's impact on global society. Since that time numerous programs have been established at leading universities. IPEF hosts an annual conference on issues of major importance to both scholarly and business/government audiences.
