In this brief demonstration, Rex Hughes delivers an innovative lecture from the University of Cambridge in the UK to SIS 410 students at the University of Washington. The experiment consisted of high-quality audio and video transmissions between both universities via Internet 2 and was capable of student interaction.

IPEF 2002 - Rebooting the Miracle: Asia and the Internet Revolution in an Age of International Indeterminacy

The primary goal of this workshop, held at Seoul National University in South Korea, was to convene an elite group of scholars and specialists from the United States, Europe and Asia to examine how the IT revolution is affecting and being affected by both national and international institutions (political, economic and cultural) - with a particular emphasis on Asia. This workshop is the first academic endeavor to take this focus with Asia as a central concern.

President Fernández spoke about his country's new initiatives to expand economic development through proactive stimulation of high technology industries. President Fernández has credited the UW Center for Internet Studies with "influencing his Government's decisions to adopt national policies to allow the country to face successfully the challenges of the new millennium."

WTO Conference
November 29-30, 1999
The WTO Conference was held in the Walker-Ames room of Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus on November 29 under the sponsorship of the Institute for International Policy . The conference addressed the issues affecting developing nations not only in terms of the agenda of the Millennium Round also in terms of institutional reforms of the WTO and of its relations to the World Bank and the IMF. The participants included senior officials from the World Bank, the OECD, the IMF and the WTO as well as academics and senior representatives from the delegations to the Third Ministerial Meeting.
IPEF 99: Internet and the Global Political Economy
September 22-24, 1999
On September 22-24, 1999 the Center for Internet Studies hosted IPEF99, the first annual conference of the Internet Political Economy Forum . The conference assembled some 50 Internet luminaries, leading scholars and top government officials from countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas for a closed-door discussion on the role of the Internet in changing economics, politics and culture on a global scale.
